Savers Glass Tray DIY
While shopping my way through Savers the other day I came across this glass dish. I have been looking for one forever, and I even looked online to find some. No need to look any longer because I found one at Savers for $2.99!
Here is what you will need. A glass dish (the flatter the better), Mod Podge, a foam brush, and a printed map or image.
Then I printed a vintage New York Subway Map on regular paper stock (copy paper). I found it on Google images.
Because the dish is curved I snipped the edges in. That way I could overlap the edges without too many wrinkles.
Flip the dish over and apply a thin amount of Mod Podge to the BACK SIDE. I DID NOT put any Mod Podge on the front of the map image so I didn’t have to worry about smudging the printer ink.
You can see that the paper still has a few wrinkles on the back, just do your best to smooth them all out.
Once that has dried you can put a coat of craft paint on the backside as well. You don’t have to, but it finishes it off nicely.
Trim away the paper after it has all dried.
Now take some 80 grit sandpaper and sand off the paper edges to make it perfectly smooth. Slide the sandpaper down instead of across.
Here is the finished product! You can’t see any wrinkles and the edges are nice and smooth!
What are you going to find at Savers? You could customize this with a map of a favorite place of a loved one! What a sweet way to celebrate your mom’s home town for Mother’s Day!
